The first American Eagle silver bullion coin minted by the United States came out on November 24, 1986. The obverse of the coin uses Adolph A. Weinman’s Liberty Walking design while the reverse side displays a John Mercanti portrayal of a heraldic eagle. These coins, released only in one troy ounce, come guaranteed in weight, content, and purity by the U.S. government. As the only authentic, legal tender, pure silver coin issued by the U.S. Mint, these coins can be purchased, sold, or used to acquire products and services.
