The world’s most recognized and desired bullion coin, the South African Krugerrand is incredibly liquid. Practically all world banks purchase them today. When first minted, this coin encompassed almost 90 percent of the gold market. Produced at the Rand Mint, the coin portrays Paul Kruger on the obverse side and a springbok on the reverse. Although originally meant for circulation, the Krugerrand became the first gold coin produced for individual gold ownership. The coin equals one ounce of gold, making it rather easy to determine its value. Other denominations are available as well, including 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/2 ounce versions.
