Two-Cent Pieces

The two-cent piece had one of the shortest minting periods in the history of the United States, a mere nine years (1864–1873). Probably the most famous aspect of this coin is that it was the first to use the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” in the design. The first minting consisted of 20 million coins, a number that continued to decrease year by year until the government ended fabrication in 1873.
